The Digital Modes site

Since about 15 years I´m also playing around with digital modes.
All started with my old Apple IIe computer and an homemade AFSK-converter.
With this simple setup I was able to work RTTY, both on HF and VHF.

Next step, some years later, was the Kantronics KAM multimode controller, still working with the IIe, later with an IBM XT clone. This setup was able to run RTTY, Paket and Amtor. With the KAM and an IBM N31sx Notebook running under DOS 6.22, I also did most of the operating during the DXpeditions.

Time changes, still have the KAM running for the 1.2k packet link to the DX-Cluster, but nowadays I´m running Windows 2000 together with the MIXW 2.06 software and an soundcard interface which opend the world to a lot of more digital modes.

If you want to have a look at this software, here´s the link:

At the moment I enjoy operating the digital modes using a Dell Notebook, sitting in the livingroom and talking to the XYL.
The Notebook is used to remote control the PC in the basement radio room via a simple 100 MBit/s Ethernet link.
This PC, running a terminal server software and MIXW, is hooked up to an Yaesu FT920.

Next projects will include wake-on-lan for the radio PC, switching station power on/off remotely and of course antenna rotating.

Read more about the Interface-Solutions.

Since operating this style, there are much less arguments with the XYL about spending to much time in the shack ;-)
